DECA & PFOB
As part of DECA’s Proactive Policy Forum series, we are finalising our Trade Digitalisation Roadmap for Parliament, a landmark initiative aimed at modernising Australia’s trade infrastructure. This roadmap captures the outcomes of DECA’s Trade Digitalisation Roundtable and is being developed in close consultation with industry to ensure practical, forward looking solutions for Australia’s trade ecosystem.
The roadmap presents a bold and actionable strategy to transition from outdated, paper based trade processes, still responsible for over 25 billion documents globally, to secure, efficient, and sustainable digital systems. It outlines a phased implementation plan underpinned by legislative reform proposals, global best practices, and emerging technologies including blockchain, distributed ledgers, AI, and cloud computing.
With a strong emphasis on SME participation, environmental sustainability, and economic opportunity, the roadmap aims to unlock $30 to $40 billion in new trade activity and help re establish Australia’s leadership in digitally enabled commerce. It is designed to support Australia’s integration into a rapidly evolving, web3 driven global economy.
Backed by bipartisan support through the Parliamentary Friends of Blockchain (PFOB), this initiative will be formally launched at the upcoming PFOB event.
This is not just about digitising documents. It is about building a resilient, inclusive, and future ready trade ecosystem for Australia.
